Vintage Addiction is an underground gem! I have to admit when I heard the first few seconds of this album I was unsure if these guys would be able to keep time and carry a tune. But that notion goes straight out the window as the first track,
Smoke of Death, gets into full-swing.
Their sound has been described as a fist-fight between Hellhamer and
Discharge with Motorhead blasting in the background, I would describe their sound simply as blackened Motorhead. The production is very raw, but in a good way. Usually raw production means unlistenable or sounds like shit, but not in this case. It sounds to me like they maybe cut the tracks live all at once, which makes listening to this record feel like you are hanging out in the bands practice room.
Dishammers subject matter ranges from weed anthems (
Smoke of Death, Into the
Bong), to evil and death (
Asmodeus by my Side,
Exterminate the
Parasite), to their love of vintage pornography (the title track
Vintage Addiction), and even to somewhat comical tastes (Werewolves on Wheels,
Pain in the
Ass).
Overall this album is a truly awesome surprise, especially if you dont know what youre getting into! The whole thing is pretty good, but if I had to pick a few key tracks Id go with
Pain in the
Ass, Age of
Disgrace, Into the
Bong and
Vintage Addiction. Listening to this on vinyl only adds to the raw authentic feel of the album. My favorite underground release of 2009!
