Emerging from an undisclosed location in Southern Germany is
Nailgun. This new Heavy
Metal band is comprised of 6 experienced performers from an eclectic array of musical backgrounds, featuring 2 guitarists, and 2 vocalists. Each has collaborated their collective interpretations of the genre, into the tightly nailed construction of this debut album.
The initial atmosphere is set with an orchestral ensemble of the old fashioned circus song, that is traditionally played at any circus, as the ring master welcomes you to the circus, with his heavy German accent. Then this 2 minute intro is integrated into track 2,
Circus, which sounds like a mix of post Thrash, and
Gothic Metal. Every 45 seconds you can hear the hideous cackle of an evil clown.
Each of the 10 songs sound very different. The bass music is always very noticeable and seems to lead the music. So the
Sludge and
Doom influences are deeply pronounced, whenever they come into play. The guitars are less commanding than the bass. They are melodic, with some occasional catchy hooks, but never seem to drive the music. On some songs the melodic guitars give the music a
Gothic ambiance. One of the vocalists adds an exaggerated
Gothic style of singing to the music. The other vocalist seems to be a James Hetfield sound alike. The drumming is very good, with many melodic beat patterns. Some of the songs seem to be influenced by the Heavy
Metal styles of
Running Wild and Iron Maiden.
They've got 2 guitarists, yet they don't dominate the music like I would expect to hear in a Heavy
Metal band. This band is a Heavy
Metal hybrid that is influenced by different genres, including Industrial
Metal as the title,
Paindustry suggests, in the vein of
White Zombie. It's a fun album and I would like to buy it. But it's not on the market yet, as the band is unsigned. Music like this shouldn't be on the bidding block for too long.
