KARP was formed just outside Olympia in Tumwater, Washington in 1990 by Chris Smith, Jared Warren and Scott Jernigan. The band name is inspired from a newsletter/zine that Chris Smith put out in high school that stands for “Kill All Redneck Pricks.” As a unit, KARP is musical meningitis. Listening to KARP will swell the lining of your brain and sever your spinal-cord. But even though you may not be able to walk, talk or think straight for some time after listening to this trauma-inducing band, you will recover - or then again, perhaps you won't. Between 1990 and 1998 KARP released three full length albums on K (Mustaches Wild [KLP027], Suplex [KLP048] and Self Titled LP [KLP067]), as well as several EPs and 7” records on an assortment of Northwest-related labels.
New York documentary filmmaker Bill Badgley (Federation X) is currently working on a KARP documentary. Jared Warren has gone on to play with Big Business, the Melvins and Tight Bros From Way Back When. Scott Jernigan died in a boating accident in 2003.
